Beatles Ashram

The Beatles music band was among the most popular bands in the decade of 1960s. They visited RIshikesh in February, 1968 with their families and support staff after being attracted to the teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi invited them to his ashram for advance learning of transcendental meditation. It is said that the tour to Rishikesh gave the Beatles a new direction. They were stressed due to excessive media exposure; even their internal relations were affected.
Their visit not only improved their lives and work but also gave Rishikesh recognition on global platform. Rishikesh has developed into a global hub of Yoga and Meditation since then. The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram, also known as the Beatles Ashram was closed in the year 1997 after the death of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and consumed by the forest department. People can still visit the Ashram and see the remains of the building like the meditation cells, lecture halls etc.
